Providing a variety Digital Audio/Digital Music/Digital
Video Services.
DAS provides today's bands and solo artists with services needed to have a competitive presence on the Internet.
Although, high speed Internet is becoming more popular, fact is, most people still use dial up service. If you have a music
web site...You've got to have music on it. MP3 is the most popular format for downloading. Unfortunatley, people get very
inpatient waiting for an MP3 to load (3-4 min.song can take 10-20 min. to load) and if you are an unknown band/artist, most
people won't wait that long just to see if they like you. You need to give your potential listeners instant gratifacation,
or something close to it to keep them at your site. So, streaming audio is the way to go.
-
Most
web hosting services today allow you to stream audio from their servers. Your listeners click the link and the song
plays almost instantly. Even if your service doesn't support streaming audio....the encoded file can be downloaded in
less than half the time as an MP3. A 3-4 min. song can be downloaded in about 5-8 min. depending on your connection. Though
streaming audio encoded for 56K dial up is not as good as the quality of an MP3, its still quite good. To cover all bases,
you should have a streaming version and if they like your song, an MP3 version to download.
- There are web sites out there that
allow you to sign-up your band, upload your songs and they encode and stream it for you. Problem is, by doing that,
in exchange for their service, you have to grant them non-exclusive rights to your music and they can do with it
as they like... use it for advertisment, use it on CD compilations or whatever, and they don't have to pay you a penny! Nobody
but you should have control over your music, and here is how to keep control of your listeners and your music. (plus,
its really irratating to your listener's if they click on your song link and then get redirected to another site where they
may have to sign up and log in to hear your songs).
( For an in depth explanation of STREAMING go to "Links" and click
on "About streaming audio/video")
Streaming Audio
DAS... can encode your files to streaming audio format. The most popular
format is RealMedia (for use with RealPlayer). This services can usually be done right over the Internet. If your songs
(in mp3 format) are an average length of 3-5 min. you can send them to DMS over the Internet, and we will encode
them for you. Once we encode them we will send them back to you and all you (or your webmaster) do is upload them
to your file manager, add a link to the song, and you are done! Longer songs or a larger number of songs will need
to be sent on a CD. In this case they can be any standard audio format-Audio (.au) / Waveform (.wav)...Encoding for
High bandwidth also available.
Streaming Video
DAS...also
does streaming video. So you want a clip or two from one of your live shows to stream on your web site? No problem.. throw
a couple of your best songs on a VHS tape or CD and send it to us. We will encode it for you and if the files are not
too large, we can send them back to you over the Internet. If they are larger files, we will send them back on a CD. Again, then
all you have to do is transfer them up to your web site, add a link...and watch them. (files accepted for encoding:AVI/mpg/mpeg1)...encoding
for high bandwidth also available.
VCD ( video CD)
VCD is
a format that uses regular CD-R media. If you have video footage of a live performance(s) (or a staged performance) we
can put it on a regular CD. What you end up with is what we here at DMS
like to call a "Virtual Showcase" because thats basically what it is.
You want to Showcase your band?...
A&R Rep. couldn't make it to your latest gig? or maybe you live in an area that is not exactly a haven for A&R
Reps. Send it to them with a Virtual Showcase!
Also great for club demo packages. Economical to reproduce, uses CD-R media.
